Kids in the Kitchen

As a parent, I know and appreciate how challenging it could be to provide healthy meals for the family. Some children have food preferences, aversions, allergies, and some are picky eaters. Never the less, our children need to eat, and no matter how challenging it could be, as parents it is our duty to provide healthy meals to the best of our ability.

Here are a few tips that could be helpful:

1. Since the children are at home, this could be a teaching moment: Guide the children as they conduct an inventory of your food pantry. This activity can help them to appreciate the various steps in managing the home, especially their meals, while they learn or improve math skills, spelling, and management skills.

2. Use the inventory that the kids conducted to plan weekly meals for the family.

3. When possible, involve the children in the menu planning process.
